Waste Management


What can go down the chute:

• BAGGED general household waste such as foodstuff, used paper towels, tissues, disposable nappies etc.
• full vacuum cleaner bags
• the contents of vacuum cleaner bags provided they are in a plastic bag.  Vacuum cleaner bags MUST NOT be emptied into the chute
• NO GLASS  –  NO CARTONS  –  NO COAT HANGERS  –  NO UMBRELLAS OR MOPS
• NO ITEMS WHICH CAN BE RECYCLED, such as newspapers, magazines, cans and bottles


What can be left in the recycling bins on each level:

• These bins are only for clean materials which can be recycled, such as bottles, cans, glass jars, paper, plastic, cardboard (very small items only, flattened) and other packaging with the recycling symbol.  Plastic takeaway containers are OK provided they have been rinsed.
• Shredded paper MUST be BAGGED
• No removalist cartons or removalist packaging materials.

It is not necessary to separate recycling items, e.g. paper from bottles.


What should be taken direct to the rubbish room on Upper Pitt Street:

• General Garbage which can be placed in the bins provided
• Recycling materials in the recycling bins which are clearly marked
• Cardboard Boxes such as packaging boxes, removalist boxes etc. which must be flattened.
• Clean unwanted clothing, shoes, coat-hangers, hats etc., which will be taken to charity outlets.
• SMALL unwanted household items such as pillows, pots, pans, crockery, small pot plants, small suitcases and bags.

• NO unwanted household items other than those listed above

• NO computer waste (printers, screens, etc.) or televisions

• Please Note – NO BUILDING MATERIALS to be left in the bins or the rubbish room.

• NO PAINT or gas bottles

 

COUNCIL REGULAR GARBAGE REMOVAL

Garbage truck collects on Wednesdays – general garbage about 6.30am and recycled waste in bins later in the morning

What can be left for Council Collection:

The North Sydney Council website has details of what may be left out for Council Collection (by arrangement with Council).  These goods should be left in Robertson Lane at the rear of the Gainsborough property and the pickup booked with Council.

What has to be taken to the Artarmon Transfer Station (12 Lanceley Place):

Items which do not fit one of the categories above.
This includes cans of paint, cans of building products and chemicals, gas bottles, building materials, builder’s waste and demolished materials – but see the following free facility:

Artarmon Community Recycling Centre (8 Waltham Street):

This is a new free service – very useful.
Paint (oil and water based) – Gas bottles – Fire extinguishers – Fluorescent light globes and tubes –
Electronic Waste (eg. computers, TVs, electronic equipment and small electrical appliances) White goods are not accepted –
Household batteries – Lead Acid Batteries eg car & motorbike batteries – Motor and other oils (including cooking oil) – Smoke detectors – Mobile phones – X-ray films

Used appliances and other larger metal products for recycling:

Metal recycling can be arranged with private companies who MAY pick up items such as washing machines, dryers, fridges etc.
