Rules for Use of Recycling Rooms and General Bin Area

Residents are reminded of the following arrangements for rubbish:

The Recycling Rooms located on each level are only for placement of:

  • CLEAN Bottles, Cans and plastic containers
  • FLATTENED cardboard and paper

The Garbage Chute in the Recycling Room is only for:

  • BAGGED kitchen/bathroom waste products
  • NO OTHER MATERIALS ARE TO BE PLACED DOWN THE CHUTE

The General Bin Area located on Upper Pitt Street is only for:

  • The disposal of bag putrid Household/Kitchen garbage – into red top bins
  • Recycling of Bottles, Cans, Plastic and flattened Boxes and Paper – into yellow top bins  
  • The General Bin Area is not for the indiscriminate dumping of other unwanted items e.g. Furniture, TVs, Computers, Whitegoods, other Household Goods, Bulky items, Pot-plants, Paint and Paint Tins, and Renovation/Builders waste

NOTHING IS TO BE DUMPED IN THIS AREA AT ALL

The removal of renovation waste and building materials is WHOLLY and SOLELY the responsibility of the RESIDENT.

If you need to dispose of items such as paint (or empty paint tins), building materials, mattresses, bulky items, furniture and the like you need to arrange a private collection or arrange collection through North Sydney Council THESE ITEMS ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

COUNCIL REGULAR GARBAGE REMOVAL

Garbage truck collects on Wednesdays – general garbage about 6.30am and recycled waste in bins later in the morning

What can be left for Council Collection:

The North Sydney Council website has details of what may be left out for Council Collection (by arrangement with Council).  These goods should be left in Robertson Lane at the rear of the Gainsborough property and the pickup booked with Council.

What has to be taken to the Artarmon Transfer Station (12 Lanceley Place):

Items which do not fit one of the categories above.
This includes cans of paint, cans of building products and chemicals, gas bottles, building materials, builder’s waste and demolished materials – but see the following free facility:

Artarmon Community Recycling Centre (8 Waltham Street):

This is a new free service – very useful.
Paint (oil and water based) – Gas bottles – Fire extinguishers – Fluorescent light globes and tubes –
Electronic Waste (eg. computers, TVs, electronic equipment and small electrical appliances) White goods are not accepted –
Household batteries – Lead Acid Batteries eg car & motorbike batteries – Motor and other oils (including cooking oil) – Smoke detectors – Mobile phones – X-ray films

Used appliances and other larger metal products for recycling:

Metal recycling can be arranged with private companies who MAY pick up items such as washing machines, dryers, fridges etc.
